What is the standard configuration of a wire rope electric hoist?

As a professional supplier of wire rope electric hoists, I’ve witnessed firsthand the diverse applications and critical roles these machines play across various industries. In this blog, I’ll delve into the standard configuration of a wire rope electric hoist, sharing insights based on my years of experience and industry knowledge. Wire Rope Electric Hoist

1. Hoist Motor

The heart of a wire rope electric hoist is its motor. A high – quality hoist motor is designed to provide reliable and efficient power. Typically, motors used in wire rope electric hoists are three – phase asynchronous motors. They are known for their simple structure, easy maintenance, and high starting torque.

The power of the motor is determined by the lifting capacity and lifting speed of the hoist. For small – capacity hoists with a lifting capacity of 0.5 – 1 ton, a motor with a power of around 0.8 – 1.6 kW may be sufficient. As the lifting capacity increases, so does the motor power. For example, a 5 – ton hoist usually requires a motor with a power of 7.5 – 11 kW.

The motor is also equipped with a braking system. Most commonly, an electromagnetic brake is used. When the power is cut off, the brake engages immediately to prevent the load from falling, ensuring safety during operation.

2. Wire Rope and Drum

The wire rope is a crucial component for lifting loads. It is made of high – strength steel wires twisted together to form a flexible and durable rope. The diameter of the wire rope depends on the lifting capacity of the hoist. For light – duty hoists, a wire rope with a diameter of 6 – 8 mm may be used, while for heavy – duty hoists, the diameter can reach 18 – 22 mm or even larger.

The wire rope is wound around a drum. The drum is designed to ensure smooth winding and unwinding of the wire rope. It has a helical groove on its surface to guide the wire rope in an orderly manner, preventing the rope from tangling. The material of the drum is usually cast iron or steel, which has high strength and wear resistance.

3. Gear Reducer

A gear reducer is used to reduce the high – speed rotation of the motor to a suitable speed for lifting the load. It consists of multiple gears meshed together. The gear ratio of the reducer determines the lifting speed of the hoist.

There are different types of gear reducers, such as cylindrical gear reducers and planetary gear reducers. Cylindrical gear reducers are simple in structure and widely used. Planetary gear reducers, on the other hand, have a more compact structure, higher efficiency, and better load – carrying capacity. They are often used in high – end wire rope electric hoists.

4. Hook and Suspension Device

The hook is the part that directly connects to the load. It is made of high – strength alloy steel and is heat – treated to improve its mechanical properties. The hook has a safety latch to prevent the load from accidentally slipping off.

The suspension device is used to hang the hoist on a beam or other supporting structure. There are two common types of suspension devices: fixed suspension and trolley suspension. A fixed suspension is suitable for applications where the hoist only needs to lift and lower the load at a fixed position. A trolley suspension allows the hoist to move horizontally along the beam, providing more flexibility in material handling.

5. Control System

The control system of a wire rope electric hoist is used to operate the hoist, including starting, stopping, lifting, lowering, and in some cases, horizontal movement. There are two main types of control systems: pendant control and remote control.

Pendant control uses a hand – held pendant with buttons to send control signals to the hoist. It is simple and intuitive, and the operator can stand close to the load for better observation. Remote control, on the other hand, uses a wireless remote controller to operate the hoist from a distance. This is especially useful in situations where the operator needs to keep a safe distance from the load or in large – scale work areas.

6. Limit Switches

Limit switches are safety devices installed on the hoist. There are two main types of limit switches: upper limit switch and lower limit switch.

The upper limit switch is located at the top of the hoist’s lifting path. When the hook reaches the upper limit position, the switch is triggered, cutting off the power supply to the lifting circuit, preventing the hook from over – rising and causing damage to the hoist or the load.

The lower limit switch is installed at the bottom of the lifting path. It stops the lowering operation when the hook reaches the lower limit position, protecting the wire rope from being over – unwound.

7. Electrical Protection System

To ensure the safe and reliable operation of the wire rope electric hoist, an electrical protection system is essential. This system includes overload protection, short – circuit protection, and phase – loss protection.

Overload protection devices monitor the load on the hoist. If the load exceeds the rated capacity of the hoist, the protection device will cut off the power supply to prevent damage to the motor and other components. Short – circuit protection is used to protect the electrical circuit from short – circuit faults. When a short – circuit occurs, the protection device quickly cuts off the power to prevent electrical fires and equipment damage. Phase – loss protection detects the loss of one or more phases in the three – phase power supply. If a phase – loss is detected, the hoist will stop operating to avoid damage to the motor.

In conclusion, a wire rope electric hoist with a proper standard configuration is essential for safe and efficient material handling. Whether you are in the manufacturing, construction, or warehouse industry, a well – equipped hoist can significantly improve your work efficiency and reduce labor costs.
